Magazine Compression Springs for the Firearms Industry

Springfield Spring & Stamping enhanced its ability to provide precision-engineered springs and stampings to the firearms industry with the addition of the capability to manufacture custom compression springs, also known as magazine springs.

The Challenge

Many of our customers kept asking us to offer custom compression springs. It was also quite apparent that there was no universal magazine spring engineering software available to pre-qualify magazine springs.

The Solution

Springfield Spring & Stamping changed out all of our mechanical coiling machines for brand new, state-of–the-art, Torin – SPX Z10, Z11 & Z11.5 CNC-controlled wire forming machines for the production of precision compression springs, torsion springs and magazine springs.

These state-of-the-art machines gave Springfield Spring & Stamping the ability to manufacture oval and square-wound magazine springs for our growing number of customers in the firearms industry. We’ve since added five additional CNC machines to augment our growing number of magazine spring customers.

Magazine springs can now be manufactured in wire ranges between .020 – .085. Common magazine spring materials include: music wire – high tensile music wire (rocket / missile), chrome vanadium and 17-7 PH stainless steel.

Parts can also be individually color-coded. Springfield Spring & Stamping developed a special magazine spring design, engineering and qualification program to augment our manufacturing capabilities. Listening to our customers is the first step in a successful customer-focused relationship!
